Another aspect of the backlash stems from advertising and sales concerns. Users suspect that these “agents” will not only provide assistance but will also be used to sell Microsoft services or partnered third-party products. While the advertising and promotions seen on Windows 11, a paid operating system, have already drawn criticism, there are fears that this situation will be exacerbated by the introduction of artificial intelligence.
Comments on social media clearly indicate that some users are now turning to alternatives due to Microsoft’s stance. Many stated that the trajectory of Windows 11 has forced them to switch to operating systems like Linux or macOS. Users believe Microsoft is focusing on appeasing shareholders and corporate sales rather than listening to core users.
While Pavan Davuluri’s statement was originally made at a conference for corporate customers, it is known that Microsoft’s vision of “making every Windows 11 PC an AI PC” encompasses all users. AI agents, such as the chatbot found in the Settings menu on Copilot+ devices, are already starting to take their place in the system.
